What worked
It seems as if fall decided to take a break this year and we've transitioned straight into winter. Now, I understand that in some places there is already snow (and THAT's winter), but here it was 45 degrees when I left the house this morning, which is almost winter to me.  I wish I would have layered two long sleeve tops instead of a sleeveless + long sleeve.  The boots were a must, though.

What didn't
Oddly enough, as comfy as this outfit is, it is one of those that actually looks better than it feels. Frankly, it felt frumpy.  Something about the volume around the neck combined with the volume of the skirt and heaviness of the boots made me feel like I was clomping around all day, but from these photos, the outfit looked great. I guess it's better than an outfit that's the other way around. I'd wear this again.

I tried on three different outfits this morning before settling on this one.  None of them felt right. I think it was just one of those days. Like last time, I made a list of possible outfit combos before I settled and posted, but wound up barely consulting it. This morning, three outfits in, I dug through my purse for that list and picked the most comfortable sounding outfit. See--planning does work!

Do you ever feel frumpy even when you look fab? Does it make you feel better than you actually look good?

  1. You look great - I totally get the "feeling frumpy in a fab outfit" thing - I have a floor-length skirt that always gets compliments but makes me feel really "bleh" :P

  2. I agree with Nicky, volume often looks good, but I rarely feel good in it. Or the opposite...
    I love your belt!

  4. You look warm and toasty and not at all frumpy! But I know what you mean; if I don't feel like I look like a million bucks sometimes I can get crabby :)

I can't wait to see your next 29 looks!

  5. You don't look frumpy at all!! I love this look, *especially* the volume of the sweater. I also think it's crucial that you let just a sliver of leg show with this outfit -- otherwise they'd get lost in the skirt. Very well done :) and looking forward to more remixes!

  6. LOVE THIS LOOK, not anything specific, it just works great for you.

And I love the "Day 1" on the tv.

  7. I don't think you look frumpy at all. Cozy maybe, but certainly not frumpy. That leaf necklace is beautiful, btw.

  9. Ach, too bad the outfit felt cumbersome. It's DARLING, and the proportions are fantastic!

  10. I really like the colors in your outfit. I hate that feeling when an outfit may look good, but you just feel kind of "blah" in it. It makes for a long, uncomfortable day.

  11. I agree with the others, you do look fantastic. I have outfits like that, though, where I just don't feel comfortable in them. That's one thing I've learned about style blogging; my readers might all love an outfit and I can't stand the way I think it makes me look or the way it makes me feel. But it looks nice and cozy. We're just starting to get snow here and I need to seriously revise my intended outfit for today!

  12. Red/Orange and Gold make my heart go pitter-patter...love this, even if it did feel frumpy!

  13. You look great. But for me "winter dressing" all the heavy layers always makes me feel frumpy. Doesn't help that I wear my dopey ski hat around constantly, even indoors. Not very fashionista of me. The sweater I am very drawn to. I like the color, neutral toned, but bright.

As for looking fine but feeling frumpy, it's often the other way around. I'll bustle around feeling like a stone cold fox, only to see in a photo how very un-foxlike the outfit turned out to be. Better to look good, than to feel good, I suppose.

  14. I totally understand what you mean about looking vs. feeling frumpy. But it LOOKS like you nailed it with this one! I especially love those boots.

  15. Ugh, I know what you mean. For me, it doesn't really matter how it looks if I don't feel great in it...but you look fantastic!

  16. That necklace is fabulous. I love the color of your skirt.

  17. I definitely feel the frumpiness from time to time. (Could it be the turtleneck? I hate having that much material up around my face...and since they're often made of thick fabrics that makes layering tough.) But the colour combo is great, and I looove the boots!

  18. I totally felt frumpy today! I think it's all the layers but not necessarily needing them (in Texas) that just wears on me! I love your necklace-- leaves are one of my favorite symbols!

  19. Love the outfit, especially the skirt and belt. I hate feeling frumpy and I totally agree that you feel so much better when you feel fab! This is probably why it takes me way too long to get ready in the morning:) Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  20. I have the same necklace and I get compliments every time I wear it! It also worked great when I was teaching kindergarten last year-the little ones definitely wanted to touch it, and since it's a little bendy it wouldn't break! (Unlike various other jewelry of mine that met its demise in the classroom:)

  21. Thanks, everyone! I do think the chunky sweater was most of it (and all that fabric around my neck--at least it's really soft!), and the puffy skirt.
